Different unit systems are used around the world. Some countries use the metric system, some the imperial system (also referred to as the American system). Also within one system, different units are used for expressing analysis values (for example g/kg instead of %). As nicely illustrated in this LinkedIn image from Paul Martin:
In some companies it is necessary to work with different unit systems, especially when they have customers abroad. The option to work with different unit systems is also useful if you want to use equations from a research institute based on other units than you want to see or use.
The module “Unit Systems” enables users to set up different unit systems in BESTMIX Feed formulation and recalculates the values to the required system. Additionally users can set up different nutrient codes and choose the default decimals for each nutrient separately.
How you can create and change unit systems
A new unit system can be created via administrative tools -> unit system:
For every nutrient users can choose:
- An alternative unit
- A different nutrient code (according to the external link source)
- The number of decimals
Working with unit systems
Users can select the unit system in the toolbar in BESTMIX Feed formulation:
When selecting the unit system, the nutrient values that are shown on screen are modified towards the new unit system, meaning the nutrients can get a new code, new unit and different number of decimals. The values themselves are recalculated.
Nutrients that have no alternative information, keep their original system data.
Naturally the unit system is also applied on the item report of an ingredient.
